CANADA AREA SERVICE PROJECTS
One of Quotas newest programs in hearing and speech is the Healthy Hearing Campaign, a program designed to raise awareness of hearing health worldwide. It has been published in the Quotarian magazine, on our We Share Foundation Website and in our e-communications and it is a simple concept. Clubs prepare packages of earplugs that feature information about both Quota and healthy hearing and then distribute them.
Last year three Quota clubs from USA to Curacaos distributed over 2000 pair. The Hearing and Speech committee in each club assembles the packages and distributes them within their communities. They do this is a variety of ways including, parades, fireworks, goody bags for community events, through audiologist offices and at lawn care stores, etc. Even schools and snowmobile shops in our areas could see the benefit.
This simple program offers enormous benefits: It promotes healthy hearing, one of Quotas mandates. It increases Quotas visibility in the community and because the earplugs have clubs information attached, anyone who takes them can get in touch with your club. It strengthens fellowship. Assembling and distributing the earplugs are simple tasks that allow members to spend time with one another. Its flexible. The program can be adjusted to meet clubs strengths and community needs.
At the Canada Area meeting in Australia this project was discussed and a motion was passed that this would be the Canada Area Quota Cares Project for March.
