Quota in Canada
Quota International, the first international, classified women's service club was incorporated in Buffalo, on February 6, 1919. Quota's earliest mandate was to assist with the continuing eduation of young women. That mandate was later changed to service to the hearing and speech impaired. In recent years, a program of assistance to disadvantaged women and children has been adopted. Clubs sprung up quickly throughout the eastern and mid-western U.S. To Canadians, its most significant spread was in November of 1925 when the Winnipeg, Manitoba club was chartered and Mary Russell Purman was presented with the charter at the 1926 convention in Philadelphia. Soon Saskatchewan clubs came on board. Canada Area is comprised of Districts 11 and 18. District 11 has 6 clubs and District 18 has 9. Today, Quota members, both male and female, share in service to their communities, encouraging others, developing friendships, and promoting international understanding and goodwill.
